What is diabetes?
Do you know what kind of disease diabetes is? Many people in the world suffer from diabetes.
There are several types of diabetes, type 2 is the most common, type 1 is a few.95% of Japanese diabetic patients are type 2.
In type 1 diabetes, the body does not produce insulin. In type 2 diabetes, the body produce insulin but It does not use insulin properly because of insulin resistance.
The body of mild type 2 diabetic patients makes insulin in large amounts. But the body of a severe type 2 diabetic patient can make only a small amount of insulin.
Insulin is a very important hormone. Without insulin, your blood sugar level will be extremely high, even if you do not eat anything, threatening life.
Patients with type 1 diabetes and those with severe type 2 diabetes must be injected daily with insulin.
What causes diabetes?
Type 1 diabetes is often caused by autoimmune disease. Beta cells of the pancreas that makes insulin are destroyed.
In type 2 diabetes, the body first has to make more insulin because of insulin resistance.
Causes of insulin resistance are obesity, smoking, pregnancy, lack of exercise, drugs, heredity, chronic stress and so on.
The exhausted body will no longer be able to make a sufficient amount of insulin. If you eat a lot of sugar you need plenty of insulin.
Insulin is secreted when you eat protein, but it is not as large as carbohydrates. Lipids are slowly absorbed, but lipids do not increase blood glucose levels and do not secrete insulin.
However, simultaneous eating of sugar and lipid at the same time causes a very big problem！
Carbohydrate and lipid together do bad things
Creatures that eat meat are equipped with a mechanism that absorbs only the necessary amount even if you eat too much lipid.
And if you ingest carbohydrate and lipid at the same time, this mechanism does not work well.
When triglyceride deposits on the liver and becomes fatty liver, it becomes easy to develop type 2 diabetes.
Even if people who are on low carbohydrate diets eat a lot of lipids they do not become fatty liver.
But If a person who does not restrict carbohydrates ingests a lot of lipids, it easily becomes fatty liver.
What are the things that type 1 diabetic patients and type 2 diabetics need to do?
Patients with type 1 diabetes must compensate for insufficient basal secretion insulin by insulin injection.
Fat patients with type 2 diabetes should first try to lose weight to reduce insulin resistance.
Patients with type 2 diabetes who are not obese should ask the attending physician to prescribe drugs that increase insulin sensitivity.
Basal secretion insulin is essential for the human body. But the presence of large amounts of insulin in the body increases the risk of developing arteriosclerosis, dementia, cancer, and diabetic complications.
Both type 1 diabetic patients and type 2 diabetes patients have lower carbohydrate diet and blood glucose levels are more likely to stabilize.
Dr. Richard Bernstein ‘s “Diabetes Solution” book is very useful. He is also a type 1 diabetes patient and a doctor.
